3 Days Hike – KuangSi Waterfalls.
This moderate trek takes you into several villages of the most prominent ethnic groups in northern Laos: the Khmu and Hmong. The Khmu are also called “Laos Theung” and settle at a medium altitude. The Hmong sometimes called “Laos Soung”, live in high regions along the mountain ranges.
Day 1: Luang Prabang – Huay Khod – Huay Pheng
We head south of Luang Prabang to Xayaboury 30km on a pave road. We arrive in Huay Khod village and start our trek. The trek passes rice fields and teak wood forest. Then we get off the main trail and enter the waterfalls and forest. We continue hiking up to the deep jungle, going through small waterfalls. Time for refreshed, then we trek through local rice fileds, animal farms. After picnic lunch break, we continue down the valley to Ban Huay Pheng (Khmu tribe), where we will spend the night here. Homestay in Khmu village.
Approximately: 5-6 hours trekking.
Day 2: Huay Pheng – Phou Nong Khuay – Long Lao
After breakfast, we trek along the valleys of the Khmu villages and rice fields, enjoy the beautiful scenery. We also explore the Hmong tribe, trek through the second forest with amazing limestone rocks.
In the rainy season, road is a bit slippery. After pinic lunch, we continue trekking through the valley, Hmong animal farms, rice paddies. We arrive at Ban Long Lao, a Hmong village where we stay overnight.
Approximately: 5-6 hours trekking.
Day 3: Long Lao – Kuang Si Waterfalls – Luang prabang
We leave this rural setting after breakfast, the trail leads along rice fields and vegetable gardens before reaching the mountain with some steeper parts. We explore a cave, which served as a bomb shelter for the villagers during the Second Indochina War. One more hour of trekking takes us to the crystal clear water that feed to Kuang si waterfalls: a beautiful pool full of big sacred fish.
After descending from the top of waterfalls, we will have Lao-style lunch break in a lush setting.
Time for bathing and relaxing in the turquoise pools.
You may walk around Ban Thapene, a Khmu village that lies nestled around beautiful Tad Kuang si.
Our guide pick us up and drive back to Luangprabang in one hour.
